Knocked up is a romantic comedy about the lives of Ben Stone (Seth Rogan) and Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) after Allison is accidentally impregnated by Stone after a drunken night. Scott and Stone are two very different people with different lives. Scott is motivated young woman who just got promoted on her job on E! while Stone is a lazy weed smoking guy trying to make money off porn site he and his friends started. When their paths cross , it makes for a hilarious and entertaining movie.
Besides being a comedy, there’s an underlying message or theme, which is that life doesn’t go as planned and that you’ll just have to roll with it. Ben and Allison didnt plan on spending the rest of life with each other, it just happend to be that way after that one night with no condom. but the couple didnt just hav an apportion and separate, they decided to have the baby and work it out and make the most of the situation. This was especially hard on Ben, because before this he didnt have any responsiblities other than his porn site and his weed and this forced him to change. And after being dumped, he finally grew up to show Allison that he was serious about the baby. This messaged showed up again when Allison was about to have the baby. She even said she had everything planned out on how she wanted to give birth, but her original gynecologist was away, so another OBGYN showed up. But at the last second the changes couldnt be made and she gave birth the way she wanted to, so maybe everything just works out.
The movie has also has a side story about Allison’s sister and her husbands marriage. I think its fun to see two stories in one film. Their story is also, about accepting and working it out. Through out the film it showed their marriage’s ups and down and for the most part the marriage wasn’t what they wanted. The wife wanted the husband to be around, while the husband is overstressed about everything and leaves constantly. it took a conversation where the husband and Ben were both high on mushrooms for the husband to realize what his wrong doings, so he changes and saves the marriage as well.
Lastly the acting in this movie was spot on. The actors took a real life scenario and made it feel real to the audience. I really thought Hiegl was pregnant throughout the film and her sister and husband made a very good bickering couple. Seth Rogan is very funny guy and i’m sure it wasnt that hard acting out his character. Great movie.

Oh my god! I still haven’t seen this movie but after reading your blog, I hella want to. I thought it was a bit informal like you were explaining more than analyzing, but I did like how you took out that message and it seems pretty spot on for this type of movie! I also like how you interpreted the side story within the movie.

ilike how you talk about the theme and hidden message of the movie. i like how you noticed that the director decided to put in another story into the movie so that its not all the same situation throughout the movie. also ya tha acting in the movie is good and “spot on”.

yeah this was a pretty good movie. I t shows how creativity within a story line can create an awesome movie. I like how you identified the themes within the movie and explored the real message of this movie.

I really digged this movie. Not as much as 40 Year Old Virgian but it was good. What do you think about a romantic comedy that is essentially about the dude?
The reason the director has been doing so well is because all of his movies (40 Year Old…, Superbad, I Hate Sarah Marshall, etc) have switched the typical idea of a romantic comedy (they’re about WOMEN) and flipped it. Now, they’re about the guy! And we actually like them! What do you think about that? Does this mean that the 20th centurey man is getting soft?
Also, I want to see you writing about what we talked about in class: lighting, acting (more. be specific. give examples), costume, music, etc. You don’t have to talk about everything but talk about something. Make an argument. Have a point to your blog, an opinion. I don’t want to hear that you liked the movie. I want to hear what you liked about it and why.
Got it?
Good movie.

YOyoyoyoyo!
I didn’t really like this movie i think its because i was in the middle of doing other things. yeah im crazy for not liking it OH WELL.what i didn’t like about it is the jokes cuz they weren’t as funny but whatever.
but i really like the theme though and the way you broke it down, i honestly think if i read your blog FIRST and then watched the movie, i would probably maybe hopefully like it. maybe i just have to watch it again.

I loved this movie because it was so funny and that one scene with her giving birth was totally unexpected!!! Anyways, noticing the message of the movie was cool, but what about the other things we learned in class: like lighting, angles, costumes, props, etc. I haven’t seen this movie for a while so I don’t remember specific things about the movie, but other than finding the message, I guess it would be nice for you to give an example in detail. You know what I mean?

I think this movie was cool, but I did’nt get any message from it like you did, but good point. This is a hard movie to critique b/c I didn’t notice any dark lightng or other techniques. The cutting may have aided in the comedy
